A 19-year-old man is facing a stunt driving charge and has had his driver’s licence suspended for 30 days and his vehicle impounded for 14 days after being clocked at more than 117 km/h in a 60-km/h zone near a school on Innes Road in Ottawa on Wednesday, police say.

The Ottawa Police Service said the teen’s vehicle and one other were observed racing eastbound near Béatrice-Desloges Catholic High School by a traffic officer conducting speed enforcement during the noon hour on Sept. 9.

The officer safely stopped one of the vehicles, a news release said. The 19-year-old man with a G2 driver’s licence was arrested and released from custody at the scene.

The driver of the second vehicle failed to stop for police and was last seen turning southbound onto Provence Avenue. It was described as a modified black newer-model sports car.

For a first-time conviction for stunt driving, drivers face a fine of not less than $2,000 and a minimum one-year licence suspension.
