After inking forwards Jack Roslovic and Colton Sissons with their first free-agent signings of the day, general manager John Chayka continued rebuilding the third and fourth lines by signing the 31-year-old centre Blueger and right winger Duhaime.

Blueger had spent the past three years with the Vancouver Canucks, while Duhaime had not missed a game for two years as a Washington Capital.

Blueger is to get two years at $2.25 million US per season while Duhaime’s terms weren’t immediately known.

Blueger adds a six-foot presence to the group down the middle, coming off a career-high nine goals. The Latvian was a second-round pick in 2012 and, in a quirk of that draft, is the fourth current Leaf chosen within a window of eight selections, including Jake McCabe, Anthony Stolarz and Sissons.

Blueger was the third-highest Latvian ever drafted, taking the big step of crossing the pond to play high school hockey in the U.S. and then on to Minnesota State.

Duhaime, from Coral Springs, Fla., played at Providence College and was a 2016 fourth-round pick of the Minnesota Wild. After three seasons there, he was traded to Colorado for a few games before landing in D.C.

He also tops out at nine goals, managed two seasons ago, but had held well over 100 hits the past few seasons.

The two newest Leafs played with some hockey royalty — Blueger with Sidney Crosby a few years ago in Pittsburgh, while Duhaime might have participated in NHL goal king Alex Ovechkin’s last NHL game if the latter retires.
