Suspected drunk driving incident in Parc-Extension leaves woman in critical condition

Three people are hospitalized — including one with life-threatening injuries — following a suspected drunk driving incident in Montreal’s Parc-Extension neighbourhood, police say.

Around 3:30 a.m. Sunday, a vehicle travelling north on St-Laurent Blvd., just south of Crémazie Blvd., “struck a tree and a pole before coming to a stop against a concrete wall,” Montreal police spokesperson Caroline Chèvrefils said.

Several 911 calls were made, she said. When police showed up, two passengers were in the vehicle, but police say the driver had fled the scene.

The two passengers, women age 25 and 26, were transported to a hospital. The 26-year-old woman suffered life-threatening injuries, Chèvrefils said.

Police say they located the driver, an unidentified man, soon after the incident and arrested him for drunk driving. The man was also transported to a hospital, with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police say they have met with some witnesses. An investigation is ongoing.
