Jamie Leweling has made huge strides since joining VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2023.

After being part of the Stuttgart team that sensationally finished second last season, Leweling has taken another step forward this season and was recently rewarded with his first call-up to the German national team.

When given the chance to start against the Netherlands, he made the most of it, scoring Germany's winner in Monday's 1-0 UEFA Nations League win.

In an interview with Sport1 ahead of Stuttgart's Bundesliga clash with Bayern Munich on Saturday, the Swabian club's sporting director, Fabian Wohlgemuth, spoke highly of the 23-year-old and his remarkable development.

“The speed at which he has developed is extraordinary. We knew from his time in Fürth that he is an athletic and physical player. But the way Jamie has developed is something you rarely see,” Wohlgemuth said in an interview with Sport1.

"He has expanded his own repertoire in a very short space of time; better decision-making, more security on the ball, better finishing - Jamie is a lot more than he was when he joined us. He has also made huge strides in his off-the-ball game.

“Jamie is a character player, he always gives 100 percent and is an absolute asset to us. It's all the more amazing because he had such a difficult start with us.”

Leweling joined Stuttgart from Union Berlin in 2023 on an initial loan deal, which was made permanent ahead of this season.

On why the 23-year-old had a difficult start to life at Stuttgart, Wohlgemuth explained:

“Jamie was often on the bench at Union and initially had Silas in front of him as a competitor. But Jamie worked on himself with incredible consistency. That's exactly what the crowd sensed early on; here's someone who doesn't succeed at everything right away, but never gives up. He has brought a special dynamic to his development. And that is exactly the way he has to continue.”
