Black Clover is a Shonen anime/manga, but no one can deny how wholesome it is. From the bond between the Black Bulls to the camaraderie between Asta and Yuno, there are cute moments sprinkled throughout the series. One character who embodies cuteness in the series is Charmy Pappitson.

This dwarf-human hybrid is more focused on eating than the serious matters around her, but she is also an extremely powerful character and member of the Black Bulls. But did you know who she was modeled after?

In an interview with the French website Le Point, Yuki Tabata was asked about his favorite character. The author did not even hesitate before pointing out that it was Charmy Pappitson. He also explained that the character was based on his wife.

It’s Charmy Papittson, it’s fun to draw my wife in a manga. She coordinates the well-being of the team that draws almost every day in her living room.

-Yuki Tabata

Yuki Tabata and his team of assistants draw almost every day cooped up in his discreet house in Tokyo. And apparently it is Tabata’s wife who takes care of the team and keeps them going. Charmy herself is a very cute and easygoing character in the series who loves food above everything and shares her food with her friends.

However the character also constantly offers food to her friends despite them having had their full. Her silly antics sometimes show her practical wisdom, and it is fun to imagine that’s what the author’s wife is like. Charmy is obviously an exaggerated version of the real person, but it is endearing to think how much he must love her to include her in Black Clover.

Fans Have Nothing But Love and Respect for Yuki Tabata’s Decision in Black Clover

Charmy might have an easygoing personality, but she is one of the most overpowered characters in Black Clover. She doesn’t just eat food for the love of it, but it also helps her restore mana in severe battles. The times when she displays her powers are extremely terrifying and one of the best panels of Black Clover.

Fans also acknowledge her power and dynamic personality because she is not only a cute character but also holds terrifying powers.

Charmy often prioritizes her own cravings before a bigger and more threatening problem. Rather than assisting the Magic Knights when the Royal Capital was being invaded, she decided to follow a delicious smell that was wafting in the air. She loves to spend her time cooking and fishing rather than seeking out opponents to get stronger, and fans love this side of her.

Nonetheless, Charmy’s powers come in handy quite a lot; especially when her comrades are in a difficult situation. She is adept at Creation magic, which she uses to shape various entities from cotton. She mostly uses this ability to create gigantic sheep in battles as well as tiny ones who help her cook.

Black Clover manga is available to read on Viz Media, and the anime is currently streaming on Crunchyroll.
