Germany and Bayern Munich's fears have been confirmed after Serge Gnabry stated online that he will miss the 2026 World Cup this summer.

The German national team player broke the news this himself this evening, Wednesday 22 April, on his Instagram account:

“The last few days have been hard to take in. A season with FC Bayern, in which, after winning the Bundesliga title again this weekend, there are still many matches to play.

"As for the World Cup dream with the German national team: unfortunately, it's over for me. Like the rest of the country, I'll be cheering on the guys from home.

"Now it's time for me to focus on recovery and preparing for preseason training. Thank you for all the messages.”

The 30-year-old cruelly suffered a partial tear of the adductor muscle in his right thigh in the final training session before Bayern Munich's 4-2 win over VfB Stuttgart.

Gnabry has been most unfortunate in his international career already, having missed both Euro 2024 and the 2018 World Cup due to separate injuries.
