The Ottawa Senators will likely be without captain Brady Tkachuk for the final two games of the regular season, but the expectation is that he’ll be ready for the National Hockey League playoffs next weekend.

Travis Green said after the game on Saturday that Tkachuk “wasn’t feeling well”. That was the case again on Sunday, which is why the club opted for rest. The Senators will start the playoffs next Saturday or Sunday, and Green fully expects to have Tkachuk in the lineup.

After leaving the club’s 3-0 victory over the New York Islanders on Saturday late in the second period, Tkachuk won’t play against the New Jersey Devils on Sunday night, and it wouldn’t make sense for him to face the Toronto Maple Leafs on Wednesday in the final regular-season game.

Tkachuk will be out along with Tim Stutzle, Thomas Chabot and Jake Sanderson after the Senators locked up a playoff spot on Saturday night.

Whatever is wrong with Tkachuk is not believed to be serious.

There was concern at the end of the second when Tkachuk left the bench early and headed for the dressing room with athletic therapist Dom Nicoletta.

New York defenceman Ryan Pulock appeared to catch Tkachuk in the head or neck with a high stick, and the Ottawa captain looked to be in discomfort while getting back to the bench. He had to be helped off the ice by Sanderson.

Tkachuk was back for the third, but took only one 13-second shift before exiting for good.
