‘Ruthless criminal’ accused of theft and fraud at five Ontario hospitals

A 34-year-old woman – previously called “a ruthless criminal” by a judge – is accused of stealing and defrauding patients and staff at numerous hospitals in Toronto and elsewhere in Southern Ontario.

And she has a history of preying on the vulnerable.

Ontario Provincial Police initially arrested Nassim Eronn in May and charged her with charged with disobeying a court order and making a false statement in writing under the Criminal Code of Canada stemming from a theft and fraud investigation at Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital.

“This investigation was prompted by several complaints of theft and fraud from patients and staff within the hospital,” police said in a statement released Saturday, explaining investigators have since “identified additional victims and laid further charges in connection with an ongoing fraud investigation.”

Allegedly stolen property seized

The OPP said investigators subsequently executed “multiple search warrants” and seized “significant amounts” of allegedly stolen property.

The investigation now includes allegations dating back more than two-and-a-half years involving five hospitals: Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital, between April 2025 and March 2026; Headwaters Health Care Centre in Orangeville, between August 2026 and September 2026; Trillium Health Partners in Mississauga, between August 2025 and July 2026; St. Joseph’s Health Centre in Toronto, between July 2024 and January 2025; and West Park Health Care Centre in Toronto, between February 2024 and April 2024.

As a result of the investigation, Nassim Eronn now faces 64 charges.

The Burlington woman is charged with 34 counts of fraud under $5,000, 13 counts of theft under $5,000, seven counts of disobeying a court order, four counts of criminal breach of trust, two counts of fraud over $5,000, two counts of possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, one count of theft over $5,000, and one count of personation with intent.

Special place in hell for fraudster

In 2019, Eronn was convicted of identity fraud and failure to comply with a probation order for stealing cash from a palliative patient – a 70-year-old woman whom she was caring for in the senior’s St. Catharines’ home while employed by the Victorian Order of Nurses.

Eronn logged into the patient’s online banking in July 2019 and transferred $970 to a different account, the Niagara Falls Review reported back then.

“There’s a special place in hell, ma’am, reserved for people like you who steal from an elderly, vulnerable person,” Judge Harvey Brownstone reportedly told Nassim Eronn in a St. Catharines courtroom on Dec. 20, 2019.

“This is exactly the crime that every senior citizen fears,” he said at the time. “Every vulnerable senior citizen is afraid they’re going to be taken advantage of by a caregiver.”

The judge also questioned how Eronn was hired by the VON when she had a number of fraud-related convictions, including forgery and credit card theft, dating back to 2017 and was on probation with the condition she would not apply to work anywhere that requires a vulnerable-sector check by police.

“How in the world did you get that job?” Brownstone asked the fraudster. “Something went very, very wrong here.”

Thief claimed she was being ‘extorted’

Eronn, who claimed at the time that she had only stolen from the eldery patient because she was being “extorted” by an ex-boyfriend, was placed on probation for a year.

“This woman is a ruthless criminal,” Brownstone said, accusing Eronn of having “absolutely no sense of morality.”

The OPP said the current investigation “remains ongoing.”

Police are concerned about the possibility of additional victims – patients, visitors and staff – from the five hospitals who have yet to be identified.

“Investigators are asking any individuals who attended these medical facilities during the above timeframes to check their financial records for any unauthorized transactions (and) to report any fraudulent transactions or thefts of cash to the Orillia OPP Major Crime Unit at 1-888-310-1122 referencing the occurrence number E250834926,” the OPP said.
