A cause of death has not been released.

“My heart breaks for Stephanie and Dougie,” Premier Doug Ford said in a statement. “They’ve been through so much at such young ages and losing their mom is incredibly painful. Our whole family is hurting for them.

“We ask that people respect their privacy during this very difficult time.”

Death comes 10 years after Rob passed away

Renata married Rob in 2000 and was with him until his death in 2016 after he had battled cancer for more than a year.

During that time, Rob served as mayor of Toronto from 2010 to 2014 with Renata staying by his side as he dealt with addiction issues and his cancer diagnosis. He eventually decided against serving a second term as mayor and opted to run for council instead, winning back his old seat.

He previously served as councillor for Etobicoke North from 2000 to 2010.

Renata also attempted to enter federal politics in 2019, when she ran for the People’s Party of Canada in Etobicoke North. She finished fourth in the race, which was eventually won by Liberal Kristy Duncan.
