The Royal Canadian Mounted Police arrested and charged four people for allegedly smuggling drugs through Pearson International Airport.

The RCMP said Friday that the months-long probe, which is still ongoing, uncovered evidence surrounding the export of cannabis at the airport.

The joint probe, which included investigators with Peel Regional Police and the Canada Border Services Agency, led to the seizure of 95 kg of cannabis, police said.

The RCMP Central Region’s Border Integrity unit charged Anoshan Alfred, 33, of Alliston, Jermaine Thompson, 32, of Toronto, and 40-year-old Jeffrey Woolcock and 42-year-old Renaldo Clarke, both of North York, with four counts each of unlawful possession and one count each of conspiracy.

‘Holding those responsible’

“Criminal organizations continue to look for ways to exploit trusted systems and infrastructure for profit, but our teams remain committed to identifying those threats and holding those responsible accountable,” RCMP Superintendent Dale Foote said in a statement.

“This outcome sends a clear message that attempts to use Canada’s aviation network to facilitate the movement of illicit goods will not go unchecked.”

Peel Chief Nishan Duraiappah said the investigation highlights the importance of authorities working together to protect the country’s busiest airport from criminal exploitation.

“Through strong partnerships with the RCMP and CBSA, Peel Regional Police remains committed to safeguarding the airport and maintaining public confidence in our aviation and transportation systems,” Duraiappah said.
