The Professional Women’s Hockey League made the announcement just two hours before Monday evening’s scheduled 7 p.m. puck drop at Place Bell in Laval, Que.

“The decision was made following consultation with medical personnel and in accordance with the league’s commitment to the health and wellbeing of players, fans, staff and all those involved in the competition,” the league said in a release.

“A rescheduled date for the game will be announced as soon as medical guidance determines it is appropriate to resume play.”

The league added that medical staff have confirmed symptoms are not consistent with hantavirus.

For the Ottawa Charge, which punched its ticket to the Walter Cup final on Sunday afternoon after eliminating the Boston Fleet in Game 4, this means it’ll have to wait a bit longer to find out its Walter Cup final opponent.

The Charge was expected to fly out Tuesday for Games 1 and 2 of the final series, which will take place on the road for the Charge regardless of the outcome as the lowest seed entering the playoffs.

Earlier Monday afternoon, the league announced Games 3 and 4 of the finals series are scheduled to take place on Monday, May 18, and Wednesday, May 20, at the Canadian Tire Centre. It’s still unclear how the postponement will impact scheduling for the final series.

The league said it expects to have an update for fans within the next day.

“All tickets for tonight’s game will be honored for the rescheduled date. Fans unable to attend the rescheduled game will be provided with refund information at a later time.”
