Kindness works for you, Utah visitor says
Dear Ottawa,
I want to thank everyone in your beautiful city for being so kind and such welcoming hosts.
My son and I visited Ottawa for a week earlier this year. We are from the U.S.A. (Utah), and my son has PTSD from the local/national political strife.
Thus, he simply wanted to visit somewhere that people are kind and the weather is cooler. It was so good for us to find a true “City of Kindness.”
Please always count us as both your friends and fans. We look forward to visiting you again!

An apology from Texas
I am an American citizen and I want to apologize to Canada and its citizens for the absurd and destructive behavior of President Donald Trump and his incompetent administration.
His poll numbers are horrible and way over half of us are as alarmed about his behavior as the rest of the world is.
We are fighting hard to preserve our democracy and restore the integrity of our nation. The mid-term elections are coming in November.

Nullify U.S. contracts
Along with the announced retaliation, Canada should reimpose the Digital Sales Tax, announce the purchase of the Canadian-built SAAB JAS-39 GRIPEN fighters (with the Rolls-Royce EJ-230 engine) and put a hold on all current or potential contracts/deals for U.S.-related defence procurements.
Since the U.S. has attacked Canada — the PM calls it a trade “war” — Canada should treat it as a hostile war act and declare a “force majeure,” thereby allowing Canada to nullify these contracts if Donald Trump continues to raise the ante.

This action will no doubt send a clear message that you are serious! You might even extend this suggestion to include your hotel stays!

Trump should take on the ocean

So, the Pompadour POTUS (PomPOT) has unilaterally assigned a new name to Lake Ontario. In this spirit, I declare that the former Excited States of America be henceforth known as the Thirteen (+37) Colonies. Like him, I have “filed all the necessary papers, documents, everything else … notified all the various people … done everything that you have to do. And this is official effective immediately.”

For his next act, I suggest that, given his deplorable inaction on climate change and its effects on rising sea levels, PomPOT take a leaf from the pages of historical folklore. Like King Canute, he should stick his feet in the waters of the Atlantic Ocean (soon to be renamed by executive order) and command the waves to recede. Don’t forget the clown-sized water shoes.

No bullying allowed

In a moment of historic national and international importance, one person readily meets its high challenge, while another thinks to explore the situation in his favour. On the face of U.S. President Donald Trump’s 11th-hour derailing tactics, Prime Minister Mark Carney resolutely refused to allow Canadians to be bullied into submission. On the other hand, Pierre Poilievre asks the details leading to the decision be debated and criticized publicly in order to extract political gains for himself.

The prime minister held an early press conference to explain the factors behind his decision to reject the last-minute offerings by the Americans. Doing a public debate at this delicate moment of paused negotiations could give the Trump team additional matter to be used against Canadian interests.
