The One Piece anime is heading toward another major break, and this one could leave fans with a huge question hanging in the air. After returning with the Elbaf Arc in April 2026, the anime is set to finish its first seasonal batch in September before taking an extended break.

One Piece Elbaf Arc Anime Goes on a Break This September

The One Piece anime officially entered a new era in 2026. Instead of following its old weekly schedule almost all year, Toei Animation moved the series to a seasonal production model with around 26 new episodes planned each year. The goal is to bring the anime closer to the manga’s pacing while giving the production team more time to improve the animation.

The first Elbaf batch began airing on April 5, 2026, and the anime is now approaching its planned stopping point. So, according to that, Episode 1180 is planned to be the final episode of this season, which is expected to be released on September 27, 2026 (via @pewpiece on Twitter/X), marking the end of this first batch of the Elbaf Arc. The anime will then take another extended break, with its next return date still unconfirmed.

This does not mean that the Elbaf story itself is finished. Rather, Episode 1180 will close the current block of episodes before the anime returns with another batch. For fans, the biggest change is simple: One Piece will no longer be something they can expect to watch every single week throughout the year. The longer breaks should help the anime avoid getting too close to Eiichiro Oda‘s manga while also giving important moments more room to shine.

The biggest question is what One Piece Episode 1180 will actually adapt. The manga has already revealed far more about the events surrounding Elbaf, Imu, Joy Boy, and the God Valley Incident than the anime has shown so far. That gives Toei several possible ways to end this first seasonal block.

A God Valley-related cliffhanger would make sense, especially because the franchise has already confirmed ONE PIECE FILM GOD VALLEY for 2027. The official announcement was made during ONE PIECE DAY’26 on August 23, with the movie positioned as a major 30th-anniversary project for the manga.

The God Valley Incident is one of the biggest mysteries in One Piece history. The manga’s flashback connects legendary figures such as Rocks D. Xebec, Gol D. Roger, and Monkey D. Garp, while also revealing more about the World Government and Imu.

That makes a God Valley tease at the end of Episode 1180 extremely exciting. The anime could potentially finish its current run with a reveal, flashback moment, or major tease that leaves fans waiting for the next batch.
