One Piece fans will see something different on Fuji TV this Sunday. Dragon Ball Super: Beerus premieres on October 11 at 11:15 p.m. JST, taking over the slot One Piece just left behind. Before anyone panics, the pirate anime isn’t ending.
Episode 1180 aired on September 27 as its last episode of 2026, and new episodes are due back in 2027. Beerus is only filling the gap while Luffy and the crew take a break. Still, it’s a huge swap, and Dragon Ball fans have been waiting for this one for a long time.
One Piece Goes on Break and Beerus Steps Into Its Time Slot
One Piece‘s 2026 farewell post | Credits: X/Eiichiro_StaffHere’s the short version. Fuji TV and its affiliates will air the first episode of Dragon Ball Super: Beerus on Sunday, October 11, at 11:15 p.m. in Japan (via website). That’s the exact spot One Piece filled until its break. Fans overseas won’t wait much longer, either. Toei Animation Inc. is hosting the world premiere of Episode 1 at New York Comic Con on October 8, three days before the Japanese broadcast. Monica Rial, the English voice of Bulma, is hosting the panel, with Jason Douglas (Beerus) and Ian Sinclair (Whis) joining her.
As for One Piece, nothing is wrong. Episode 1180, titled “Elbaph in Despair – Diabolical Covenant, ‘Domi Reversi,’” was the 25th episode of the Elbaph Arc. Imu took over Gunko and unleashed Domi Reversi on the giants, which left the arc on a massive cliffhanger. The team confirmed the next episode will air in 2027. There’s no exact return date yet. The pause fits the anime’s new schedule, too. After the Egghead Arc ended with episode 1155 in December 2025, the series took a three-month break and came back on April 5 with Elbaph. The team also announced it would drop recap episodes and air no more than 26 episodes a year.
There’s plenty to look forward to in the meantime. One Piece Film: God Valley is set for summer 2027 in Japan, and it will adapt the God Valley flashback from Eiichiro Oda’s manga. So Luffy isn’t gone for long. He’s just stepping aside so the God of Destruction can wake up from his nap. Not a bad trade at all.
What Makes Dragon Ball Super: Beerus Such a Massive Return?
So why is everyone this excited? Dragon Ball Super: Beerus is the enhanced edition of the 2015 DBS anime. Toei Animation revealed it on January 25 at the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event at Makuhari Messe, the pinnacle of Dragon Ball’s 40th anniversary celebrations, and the series also commemorates the studio’s 70th anniversary.
This isn’t a simple re-run. The official site says the project brings new cuts, revisions to existing scenes, fully re-rendered footage, newly recorded voice work, and a rebuilt story. Masako Nozawa is back as Goku, and Koichi Yamadera returns as Beerus. Norihito Sumitomo, who scored the original series, is composing again, with Tadayoshi Yamamuro on character design and chief animation direction and Matsuto Seya on composition and unit direction. The opening theme is “Onogami” by MEGATERA・ZERO, while the ending theme is “Kanpeki no Peki” by Vickeblanka.
The launch trailer opens with Beerus in a long, deep sleep, then shows Goku and his allies rising to protect Earth. Story-wise, it covers the God of Destruction Beerus, Golden Frieza, and Universe 6 sagas. That means the Battle of Gods, Frieza’s comeback, and the tournament against Champa’s universe all get a fresh coat of paint.
Dragon Ball Super: The Galactic Patrol was announced the same day as Beerus. It follows the Universe Survival Arc and is based on the manga’s Galactic Patrol Prisoner Arc. So Dragon Ball isn’t just coming back for one season. Plenty more is coming.
