After last week’s entertaining confrontation between Luffy and Scopper Gaban, One Piece Episode 1171 slows things down just a little bit to let the story breathe before delivering one of the best and most anticipated endings of the Elbaf Arc so far. This episode did not have any battle moments; rather, it focuses on character choices, growing tension, and a huge Loki moment at the end.

What I really liked the most about Episode 1171 is that every scene from the beginning builds toward that single ending moment, and by the time Loki finally rises, the scene feels completely earned. It is another example of One Piece proving that a well-built climax can be just as exciting as a full-scale battle.

Luffy and Zoro Finally Free Loki in Episode 1171

Episode 1171 starts by splitting the Straw Hats into different groups after the events at Aurust Castle. While Nami returns to the feast disappointed that she could not find any treasure, Luffy and Zoro continue toward the Underworld with one goal in mind: freeing Loki.

One of the episode’s biggest strengths is how naturally it balances serious moments with classic One Piece humor. Usopp’s drunken celebration after finally reaching Elbaf provides some welcome comedy, while Franky’s tour of the Treasure Tree Adam with Ripley quietly delivers an important piece of world-building. Learning that even the mighty Adam Tree can be damaged by fire and lightning feels like one of those details that will probably become very important later in the arc.

The real focus, however, remains on Loki. When Luffy and Zoro finally reach him, they discover that he is in far worse condition than expected. Surrounded by injured animals and barely able to move, Loki no longer looks like the terrifying monster described throughout Elbaf. Instead of seeing a dangerous criminal, Luffy sees someone who needs help.

This difference in perspective creates one of the episode’s strongest character moments. Zoro refuses to ignore Loki’s terrible reputation and remains cautious from the very beginning. Luffy, on the other hand, stays true to himself. He believes helping someone in need matters more than worrying about the consequences. Even after realizing that freeing Loki could get them banished from Elbaf, he never hesitates. It is a simple decision, but one that perfectly captures why people continue to trust and follow him throughout the series.

Another enjoyable moment comes when Luffy tries to remove the Seastone chains himself, only to immediately lose his strength because of the shackles. It is a small reminder that even after all these years, Seastone remains one of the biggest weaknesses for Devil Fruit users.

Meanwhile, Road’s lie finally catches up with him. After Gerd forces him to reveal what really happened at Aurust Castle, Hajrudin, Sanji, and the New Giant Warrior Pirates rush toward the Underworld in a desperate attempt to stop Luffy before it is too late. Their arrival scene adds another layer of urgency, even if it comes with a bit of comedy after their flying vessel struggles to function in the Underworld and sends everyone falling from the sky. Luffy’s quick use of Gomu Gomu no Fusen to save them keeps the sequence fun without taking away from the tension.

Loki’s Final Stand Delivers the Perfect Cliffhanger

The final minutes are easily the highlight of One Piece Episode 1171. Hajrudin desperately begs Luffy not to free Loki, warning him that the giant prince is manipulative, cruel, and capable of fooling anyone who shows him sympathy. It is the last chance to stop what everyone believes could become a disaster.

Unfortunately for them, they arrive just a little too late. The chains have already been removed. Despite suffering terrible injuries, Loki slowly rises to his feet and reaches for his massive weapon, Ragnir.

What makes this scene so memorable is not flashy action but the presentation. The episode allows the silence to do most of the work. Every character freezes as Loki stands, the music gradually builds, and the atmosphere instantly changes from hopeful to unsettling. It is one of those moments where very little actually happens, yet the tension becomes almost unbearable.

The animation deserves praise here as well. Loki’s towering presence feels genuinely intimidating, while the reactions from Hajrudin, Sanji, Luffy, and the other giants make it clear that everyone understands how dangerous this moment could become. Instead of ending with a battle, the episode wisely chooses to stop at the exact moment viewers want more. That restraint makes the cliffhanger even more effective.

One Piece Episode 1171 Final Verdict

One Piece Episode 1171 may not have featured a major fight, but it never needed one. Instead, it succeeds by focusing on character decisions, meaningful dialogue, and steadily building suspense until everything pays off in the final minutes.

Luffy and Zoro’s different approaches to Loki make for compelling storytelling, Franky’s discovery adds another interesting layer to Elbaf’s world-building, and Hajrudin’s desperate attempt to prevent Loki’s release raises the stakes without feeling forced.

Most importantly, the episode understands the value of patience. Rather than rushing into Loki’s next move, it lets the tension grow naturally before ending on an unforgettable image of the giant prince standing once again with Ragnir in hand. Overall, One Piece Episode 1171 is another excellent episode in the Elbaf Arc. It balances humor, mystery, and suspense beautifully while delivering a final scene that leaves fans counting the days until the next episode.
