Although this message was one of the biggest shocks for the people of the One Piece world and the fans, it looks like Eiichiro Oda already hinted at it way back during the Sky Island saga. The sinking of the world is one of the biggest aspects of the One Piece story, and Oda has been foreshadowing it since before the time skip.

The mangaka hid the impending doom within the description of the Knock Up Stream by Mont Blanc Cricket, the descendant of Mont Blanc Noland. Mont Blanc Cricket had a theory about the Knock Up Stream, and this theory could very well describe how the One Piece world will sink beneath the sea.

The One Piece World is Going To Sink!

The Egghead Island arc was the first phase of the finale saga in One Piece, and it certainly lived up to its hype. Not only did the arc show one of the greatest battles between the Straw Hat Pirates and the Five Elders, but it also revealed some big mysteries that have been foreshadowed by Oda since the beginning of One Piece.

However, the biggest revelation made during the Egghead Island arc was when Vegapunk made the global announcement about the One Piece world sinking beneath the great seas. This news led to a huge commotion all over the world, and people of the One Piece universe were scared about their lives.

Although Vegapunk didn’t reveal many details about how or when it was going to happen, he did point out that the Ancient Weapons would be involved in it. They will raise the level of the sea by one meter, which would make many islands inhabitable.

The Knock Up Stream’s Connection With The One Piece World Sinking

Eiichiro Oda has been hinting about the sea level rising for the longest time. Be it the Water 7 arc or the destruction of Lulusia Kingdom, the mangaka has been foreshadowing the impending flood that will sink the One Piece world. However, the first time Oda hints at or reveals the sinking of the world is in 229 of the One Piece manga when Mont Blanc Cricket talks about the Knock Up Stream and how it is used to travel.

Although Cricket did not know the real concept of the Knock Up Stream, he theorized that the pressurized water stream is caused by an explosion that takes place when an enormous cavity below the sea is heated by geothermal energy. This concept is a rare phenomenon, which is why it only happens five times a month.

But the main point of concern about this theory is the hollow cavity that causes the Knock Up Stream. There is a big possibility that this hollow cavity is way bigger than Mont Blanc Cricket anticipated. Thus, as the pressure keeps increasing after every stream, there is a chance that in the future, it may rise up to an extreme level, causing the entire One Piece world to sink.

As of now, this is the only possible explanation that links the continuous rise of the sea level and the impending flood in One Piece. As the narrative has already entered the second phase of the finale saga, fans will soon get to know more about the sinking and how the Straw Hat Pirates will save the world.

One Piece is available to watch on Crunchyroll.
