One Piece Chapter 1190 Ending Explained: Will Gaban’s Sacrifice Push Luffy’s Next Transformation?

In the world of One Piece, old legends don’t always stay away from the biggest battles. Sometimes, they return when the new generation needs them the most.

Chapter 1190 proves that with Scopper Gaban finally standing against Imu. After saving Luffy from a deadly attack, Gaban gives the Straw Hat captain a harsh lesson about becoming the Pirate King before taking on Imu himself. The fight is brutal, and Gaban ends up paying a terrible price for protecting Luffy.

One Piece Chapter 1190 Puts Gaban Against Imu

Chapter 1190 of One Piece starts right where the previous chapter ended. Imu was about to finish off Luffy with the Axe of Xingtian when Gaban stepped in and blocked the attack. Now, the former Roger Pirate has no intention of letting Imu hurt Luffy while he is still standing. However, Gaban first has something to say to Luffy.

Gaban is clearly disappointed that Luffy needed an injured old man to save him. He reminds Luffy that becoming the Pirate King is not an easy dream. There will always be people who want to take the title for themselves, and many of them will celebrate when the Pirate King dies.

Gaban tells Luffy that if he wants to become the Pirate King while living a peaceful life, he should simply go home. It sounds harsh, but Gaban is trying to make Luffy understand the reality of his dream. Luffy has already become one of the Emperors in One Piece, but reaching the One Piece and becoming the Pirate King will put an even bigger target on his back.

After giving Luffy this reality check, Gaban sends him away and turns toward Imu. Imu asks who Gaban is, and the former Roger Pirate makes it clear that he is someone who knows the world. This is important because Gaban was part of Gol D. Roger‘s crew and reached Laugh Tale with his captain. Gaban therefore belongs to the small group of people who know the world’s biggest secrets. He also understands the importance of Joy Boy and what Luffy’s journey could mean for the future.

The fight between the two legends then begins. Imu brings out Honebami, a powerful legendary sword. Gaban attacks Imu with Yachi Takeru, and the clash creates a huge amount of destruction around them. The attack shows that Gaban is still incredibly powerful despite his age and the injuries he has suffered.

Gaban Pays A Heavy Price For Saving Luffy

The battle eventually sends the two fighters toward Elbaf’s Underworld, with One Piece Chapter 1190 ending with Gaban losing his left arm below the elbow while clashing with Imu, leaving the former Roger Pirate badly injured. This makes Gaban’s earlier words to Luffy even more meaningful. He told Luffy that becoming the Pirate King means accepting the dangers that come with the title. Gaban then proves those words himself by putting his life on the line to protect Luffy.

At the same time, Chapter 1190 makes Imu look even more dangerous. Luffy was already pushed to his limit in the previous chapter, and now one of Roger’s legendary fighters has lost an arm while trying to protect him. Now, the question is what Luffy will do after seeing Gaban fall.

Gaban’s sacrifice also creates an interesting parallel with Shanks. Years ago, Shanks lost his left arm while saving a young Luffy from the Sea King. Now, Gaban is shown without his left arm after protecting the same future Pirate King. The similarity is hard to ignore, especially because both men are connected to Roger’s crew and have put themselves in danger to protect Luffy.

For Luffy, this could be the moment when everything changes. Luffy could finally be pushed to another level in his fight against Imu. His next power-up may or may not necessarily be a completely new Gear, but Gaban’s sacrifice could give Luffy the emotional push he needs to bring out even more of his power.
