The recent developments in Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece manga have brought a major shift in the narrative as the Straw Hat Pirates move one step closer to the Elbaf village. While this is certainly an exciting development, it was not the highlight of the chapter. The main focus of the chapter this time was on the Red-Haired Pirates and their confrontation with Bartolomeo and his crew.

As One Piece fans know, Bartolomeo took it upon himself to spread the name of Luffy and his crew throughout the world. However, in doing so, he launched an attack on one of Shanks’ territories and burned his Jolly Roger, replacing it with the Straw Hat Pirates’. This was not at all liked by Shanks and his crew, and thus, they decided to teach Bartolomeo a lesson by defeating him and sinking his ship.

Although the assumption within the One Piece fanbase is that Bartolomeo might have possibly drowned, there are reasons to believe that he might have survived, thanks to his Devil Fruit. His Devil Fruit is quite unique, and it has the ability to cheat the biggest weakness of any Devil Fruit, seawater.

Shanks Finally Proved Why He is a Yonko

Ever since the final saga of Eiichiro Oda’s One Piece started, Shanks has constantly been part of the narrative. This hints that he might be involved in the central storyline revolving around the Straw Hat Pirates sooner or later. He was seen in the last moments of the Wano arc, and recently, he was challenged by Eustass Kid, who eventually faced defeat.

In lieu of all this, Shanks was also tasked with taking care of Bartolomeo, who was creating a ruckus in his territory. Although Bartolomeo’s status as a pirate is way below Shanks’, he still tries to defame his name in his own territory. Thus, as an Emperor and one of the strongest characters of One Piece, Shanks was obliged to confront Bartolomeo and take him down.

It took Shanks and his crew less than a few minutes to take down Bartolomeo, but the Red-Haired Pirates also had something else in their mind. They wanted to see whether Bartolomeo’s loyalty towards Luffy was rock solid or not. And when Bartolomeo proves himself, Shanks acts like he is letting him go, but Yassop decides to destroy his ship and drown him and his entire crew.

Bartolomeo Might Have Cheated Death

While the general opinion among One Piece fans is that Bartolomeo could not have survived an attack from Yassop, there is still a chance that he could have saved himself and his crew from drowning. This could only be possible because of his Devil Fruit ability, which allows him to cheat and survive the biggest weakness of any Devil Fruit power, the seas.

Bartolomeo possesses the power of the Bari Bari no Mi, which helps him create barriers around himself, saving him from any kind of attack. He can also use these barriers to save him from elemental destructions like flames, lightning, etc. Thus, if he had the time, he could have formed a barrier around himself and his crew that would have saved them from drowning.

There are quite a few Devil Fruits that can cheat through the major weakness of the mysterious power. One of them is Aokiji Kuzan’s Hie Hie no Mi, which allows him to literally travel over seawater without causing any weakness or disturbance. This proves that it is not an unknown concept and could be used by Bartolomeo to survive and make a comeback in One Piece once again.
