Black Myth: Wukong has easily become the biggest game of 2024 with its impressive launch. But the much-anticipated release of the game on Xbox Series X|S has hit a significant snag. There are new reports of a memory leak error that has reportedly led to an indefinite delay.

Despite the game being close to ready, developers have been unable to pass Xbox’s certification due to this critical issue. Fans are starting to wonder if the continued efforts to bring the game to Xbox are worth the investment.

Black Myth Wukong’s Absence On Xbox Finally Has Some News?

According to an X (formerly Twitter) post from leaker extas1s, the memory leak issue reportedly causes severe performance degradation on Xbox consoles. This technical problem has prevented Black Myth: Wukong from passing Xbox’s rigorous certification process, which is necessary for a game to be released on the platform.

Memory leaks are notoriously difficult to fix, as they involve the game’s code failing to properly release unused memory, causing the system’s RAM to become overwhelmed over time.

On Xbox, the memory leak in Black Myth: Wukong seems particularly problematic. While memory leaks are not uncommon in games, the severity of this issue has led to the game’s indefinite delay on the Xbox platform.

Interestingly, the game has already been released on PC and PlayStation 5, where it has received positive reviews despite some performance hiccups. However, the Xbox delay suggests that the memory leak issue might be more severe on Microsoft’s consoles.

The Xbox Series X and Series S, while powerful consoles have faced criticism in the past for being less forgiving of technical shortcomings compared to their PlayStation and PC counterparts. It could also be possible (though unlikely) that Microsoft’s certification process is more stringent, potentially complicating the release of Black Myth: Wukong further.

Makes sense. They already exceeded their sales goals way beyond expectations.

Putting it on Xbox may only get you an extra 10,000 unit sales.

Not worth the resources.

Given the indefinite delay and the technical challenges involved, some have begun to question whether it’s worth the effort to bring Black Myth: Wukong to Xbox at all. The game is already available on other platforms, and the resources required to fix the Xbox version could be substantial.

For a studio like Game Science, which is relatively small compared to industry giants, the decision to continue investing in a troubled port might not make financial sense, especially if the game’s performance on other platforms is satisfactory.

For now, Xbox players can only wait and see whether Black Myth: Wukong will eventually make its way to their consoles or if this is one journey that will never be completed on the Xbox platform.

What do you think of these delays? Are you an Xbox owner waiting for the release? Let us know in the comments!
