The disappointing reception of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom aka Aquaman 2 marked an embarrassing end to the era of the DC Extended Universe. Despite high anticipation, the film’s box office collections fell far below expectations. Following a string of unfavorable reviews, it struggled to live up to the commercial success of its predecessor. Regrettably, it not only failed to meet the critics’ or the audience’s anticipated performance but also was unsuccessful in giving DCEU the proper send-off it really deserved.

Aquaman 2’s Box Office Collection Has Been Disappointing So Far: Day 4
As of Friday, international box office figures reveal that Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom has grossed $40.9 million across 73 markets according to Deadline, aligning with the projected debut of approximately $40 million which is definitely a significant drop from its predecessor which had a $67 million opening.
This places the movie as the fourth weakest opening weekend within the DC Extended Universe ever, following the disappointing runs of The Suicide Squad, Blue Beetle, and Wonder Woman 1984. Additionally, it will mark the fourth disappointment from the DCEU this year, following the underwhelming performances of Blue Beetle, The Flash, and Shazam! Fury of the Gods.
So far, the top five markets for the film stand to be China at $13.9 million, followed by Mexico with $3.4 million, Brazil and Indonesia both at $1.9 million each, and France with $1.6 million. Despite the holiday season buzz and the anticipation surrounding a superhero blockbuster, the movie’s performance is much much much lower than anticipated.
