Newcastle United could re-enter the race for 1.FC Köln prodigy Said El Mala, according to British tabloid the Daily Mail.

The Premier League club had already made inquiries about El Mala months ago, but were turned down by the family at the time.

El Mala's agents indicated that “the trend was towards Brighton & Hove Albion,” but a move to the Seagulls subsequently fell through.

Since then, Newcastle have bagged €80million from the sale of Anthony Gordon to FC Barcelona and could therefore afford El Mala.

Köln's asking price of €50million for would be well within budget for the Magpies after the sale of their English international.

Interestingly, El Mala would also join forces with fellow German stars in Nick Woltemade and Malick Thiaw in Eddie Howe's team.

Following the failed Brentford transfer, the German has recently been linked with clubs including Liverpool and Borussia Dortmund.

However, no serious leads have emerged at this time. Alternatively, the English club are also considering Matias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille.
