Netflix’s ‘Yellowstone’ Meets ‘Fargo’ Gets Canceled After 2 Seasons

No more Staten and Quinn’s “will-they-won’t they.” Netflix has officially canceled Ransom Canyon after two seasons. The update comes less than two months after Season 2 premiered on July 23, 2026. The Yellowstone-style ranch romance drama was already on borrowed time after it failed to deliver the expected viewership in its first season.

However, the cancellation still comes as a disappointment to fans after showrunner April Blair had already mapped out ideas for at least another season. Ransom Canyon is a story of two childhood friends-turned-lovers who never seem to get their timing right. Blair has previously mentioned that she didn’t want to make them go through another romance loop in Season 3, considering them the show’s “true north.”

Why did Netflix Cancel Ransom Canyon After 2 Seasons

Ransom Canyon Season 2 was canceled after a total of 18 episodes spanning two seasons. Although Netflix has not provided an official explanation, Deadline has reported that the viewership drop could have contributed to the cancellation.

Ransom Canyon Season 1 earned significant viewership, but it was still not massive. The season managed to stay in Netflix’s Top 10 for about four weeks, and eventually got renewed for Season 2. However, there was a substantial creative overhaul, which called for a change in the supporting cast. In addition, the second season was reduced to eight episodes from ten in the first season.

While Ransom Canyon Season 2 was better received globally, it failed to measure up to the first season’s 7.2 million views in opening week. Season 2 only logged about 4.1 million views, which was a 43% drop from the first season. It also stayed in Netflix’s Top 10 only for three weeks.

While the declining viewership might have contributed to the cancellation, only weeks before, Blair said that the Season 2 finale was “just the beginning” for Staten (Josh Duhamel) and Quinn (Minka Kelly), who finally chose each other.

In July, Blair told Entertainment Weekly,

I always say the end of season two isn’t the end of their story. It’s actually just the beginning.

The creator was clearly preparing for another season, as she told the outlet, “So it took two seasons for them to end up together, but they still have a lot of hurdles and fun to come, but they’ll be facing them together instead of separate.”

She did not want Season 3 to have the same cycle of Staten and Quinn constantly separating. Blair told US Magazine, “For me, Staten and Quinn are meant to be together and that is the true north of our series. I don’t foresee continuing to split them up and put them together and split them up and put them together.“

Blair told the outlet that she was moving forward with the story, specially introudicng new obstacles for the couple. She also spilled on an evolving love triangle between Ellie (Marianly Tejada), Yancy (Jack Schumacher), and Kai (Justin Johnson Cortez). The showrunner said that Season 3 would have more musical acts, as another cast shakeup was in order. However, the series has now ended with Staten and Quinn finally finding their way back to each other.
