A young couple were beaten with a baseball bat after honking their car horn at another vehicle in the drive-thru at a Tim Hortons in Mission on Sunday morning.

According to the Mission RCMP, the couple were inside a grey Honda Civic when they honked their horn at the occupants of a black Chevrolet Malibu in front of them at the Tim Hortons at Lougheed Highway and the Cedar Valley Connector.

Police say the Chevy Malibu was not moving forward in the lineup.

“After the Malibu exited, it reportedly waited for the Civic to exit the drive-thru, then drove up beside the Civic, and the female occupant of the Malibu threw her coffee cup at the Civic,” a police spokesperson said.

“The Malibu then continued following the Civic for about two kilometres until they reached the intersection of Bakerview Avenue and Cedar Street. The occupants of the Malibu got out and assaulted both occupants of the Civic with a baseball bat, before getting back into the Malibu and driving off.”

The 21-year-old female and 20-year-old male victims, both from Mission, were taken to hospital for treatment.

A social media post related to the incident shows the young woman with a large bruise on her forehead and bloodied face and a baseball bat-sized bruise on her back. The post claims the attackers were in an Alberta-registered vehicle.

Police located the unoccupied Chevy Malibu shortly after the 10:30 a.m. attack and have identified two people connected with the vehicle.

Police have also released photos of the two suspects, which were taken by the victims.
