One of the first characters that comes to mind when it comes to peculiarity has to be Ben Feldman’s Michael Ginsberg. The character was certainly one of the most unhinged parts of the series, with his bloody confessions of love and his dramatic exits on hospital equipment.

During an interview, Feldman talked about playing this character, revealing the positives and negatives that come with being a part of the beloved series.

Working on Mad Men Was a Dream Come True for Ben Feldman

Ben Feldman‘s performance as Michael Ginsberg was certainly memorable. However, there is no denying that the credit of Mad Men in his acting profile certainly stands out among other projects like Superstore, The Perfect Man, and Monsters at Work. During an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the actor spoke on what drew him to be a part of the series.

It would seem that before he made his entrance in the fifth season of the show, Feldman and his wife were fans of the series. Not just watching the series in passing, but actually being very big fans of the world that Matthew Weiner helped create.

I was fortunate enough to be on my favorite show when I joined that cast. That was a show my wife and I started watching in real time the very first day it aired. To then step into that world was surreal and a major trip.

The actor even went as far as to say that he was able to star in his favorite series; a privilege he holds very close to his heart. However, when one dreams about a possibility and watches it come true, the reality can be very different from the expectations that they originally had.

During an interview with PTI (via TOI), the actor revealed what it was like for him to work on the series, and naturally, it had its positives and negatives.

The One Drawback of Mad Men

Ben Feldman went into further details about his time working on Mad Men, and it seemed that working on a hit series isn’t always as good as it sounds. He started by explaining that he deeply enjoyed his time on the show, calling it the best experience of his life.

It was the greatest thing that happened to me and I was lucky to play such a cool character. I felt I was doing important acting.

However, there was one drawback that made him question the character that he was playing. One of the best things about Matthew Weiner’s series is the fact that it has multiple, fleshed-out characters. Everyone gets their spotlight, and the stories are very well written.

I didn’t get my due a lot. I was there for sometime. It was a giant cast with many stories to tell.

While this can be an excellent thing in the early seasons, it leaves little room for new characters to have similar arcs when they enter the show in its fifth season. During the interview, Feldman spoke on this as well, stating that since so much was going on within the series, he did not get to explore all of the layers of his character.

Mad Men is available for streaming on AMC+.
