Oliver Stone’s Wall Street gave Hollywood one of its most iconic villains in Gordon Gekko and won Michael Douglas an Oscar. But almost four decades later, it turns out that some of the nastiest behavior on that project happened off-camera.
In his new memoir, One Helluva Ride, Douglas has opened up about the bad blood between Charlie Sheen and Sean Young during filming (via EW). According to the actor, Sheen once taped a sign on Young’s back that read, “Biggest c**t in the world.” Young had no idea it was there. Douglas wrote:
She caused a lot of problems on set, and many on the crew had an issue with her. It got so bad that at one point Charlie taped a sign on her back that read ‘Biggest c**t in the world.’
Douglas spotted the sign and quickly pulled it off. He didn’t tell her what it said and simply asked her to “forget” about it. But Young eventually found out when “the guy who furnished all the art for the film had seen it and told her,” and she wasn’t about to let it slide.
Her response, along with her other troubles on set, made her one of the most talked-about names behind the scenes of that movie.
Michael Douglas on Sean Young’s Reaction to Charlie Sheen’s ‘Sign’
Sean Young played Kate Gekko, the wife of Michael Douglas’ ruthless corporate raider in Wall Street. But according to Douglas, her relationship with the rest of the cast and crew was a “terrible” one. He recalled that things only got worse after Sheen’s cruel prank.
Still, Douglas didn’t put all the blame on her. He admitted that Young “had every right to be furious.” Being humiliated like that in front of the entire crew would have been hard for anyone to brush off, especially on a set where she already felt like an outsider.
Young has shared her side of the story before. In a 2021 interview with The Daily Beast, she said that Douglas was “wonderful” to her and that he “tore it off without me knowing what it said.” When she learned the truth, she confronted Sheen the next day and told him, “Your dad was a pro. Writing ‘c**t’ on a piece of tape and sticking it to my back? Not pro. It’s just stupid. What are you doing?”
She also called both Sheen and director Oliver Stone “awful” to work with. She further accused Sheen of being on drugs, sharing, “And Charlie was on a lot of coke on that show, and that’s what coke does to you.”
At the time, Sheen was one of Hollywood’s fastest-rising stars, fresh off the success of Platoon. Now, Douglas’ account confirms that the incident wasn’t just a Hollywood rumor.
Sean Young Also Clashed With Wall Street Director Oliver Stone

Michael Douglas also wrote about her clash with Oliver Stone, which started when the two disagreed over her lines in a scene. After the director gave her lines to actress Daryl Hannah, Young reportedly asked the director what the point of her being there was. Douglas wrote:
Sean continued to clash with Oliver until, at one point, they were shooting a scene at the horse stable and Oliver was so fed up he gave Sean’s only line in the scene to Daryl [Hannah]. ‘If I don’t have any lines in the scene,’ Sean said, ‘then what’s the point of me being here?’ ‘You’re right,’ Oliver said, and he fired her on the spot.
He revealed that Hannah, who played Darien Taylor, also had issues with the director. In the end, Stone cut a large chunk of Young’s scenes. Douglas’s account confirms what Young shared about this particular incident during her Daily Beast interview.
Wall Street marked the start of a rough period for Young. Once a rising star thanks to Blade Runner, Dune, and No Way Out, she lost the role of Vicki Vale in Batman after breaking her arm in a horse-riding accident. She was later labelled difficult to work with, and she claimed that powerful figures like Warren Beatty and Ridley Scott had blacklisted her (via Variety).
She later found steady work on The Young and the Restless and returned as Rachael in Blade Runner 2049. Today, she has largely stepped back from acting.
