Just Weeks after moving to the UK with her entire family, including her dogs, Meghan Markle is reportedly struggling with the transition and is missing home.

The Duchess of Sussex, 45, returned to Britain with her husband Prince Harry and their two children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet, in late August, which was a significant move after six years away in the US.

Sources close to the couple now claim that the move has been harder than Meghan Markle had expected, and after the king’s guidance letter, she would return to California if she could, but fears she’d be admitting failure.

Meghan is reportedly not connecting with life in the UK, and she misses her life back home in Montecito, California.

According to Closer Magazine, an insider claimed that Meghan is “very homesick,” and “she misses her mom, her friends, the beach – even her chickens.”

The insider shared that Meghan agreed to relocate to support her husband Harry, who had been missing his homeland while in the US; however, things don’t seem to be going smoothly with their transition to life in the UK.

“It’s no secret Meghan agreed to this move to make Harry happy, but it’s already turning out to be way harder than even she anticipated,” the source explained.

The Duchess Had A ‘Lot More Freedom In California’

Loss of freedom is said to be a major factor in how Meghan is feeling in the country. In California, the former “Suits” actress could move about freely without much worry, but as per the source, that’s not the case in Britain.

“She has a lot more freedom in California too,” the insider shared. “She can jump in the car to go shopping or meet someone for lunch without thinking too much about it, whereas she’s much more nervous about being out in public in England, so there’s a real sense of isolation.”

The source also notes that the couple is under money-related pressure that compounds their stress and makes her miss the comfort of her American life.

“On top of that, they’ve got all this financial stress so there’s just an overwhelming amount on her plate, of course she’s feeling it,” the insider noted.

Sources Say Meghan Markle Would Go Back Home ‘If She Could,’ But It Would Look Like An ‘Admission Of Failure’

Despite the turmoil and Meghan’s alleged homesickness, the duchess and her husband have been attempting to establish a proper base in the UK.

The Closer article revealed that Meghan was spotted at Soho Farmhouse, the Cotswolds branch of the chain of hotels, bars and spas the businesswoman supposedly loves.

The Sussexes are believed to be residing in the Cotswolds region where their children Archie and Lilibet recently started school, before being abruptly removed due to security concerns.

While they try to adjust, sources indicate that Meghan remains deeply displeased.

As one insider put it, “If she could go back home tomorrow, she would, but that’s just not in the cards; even a quick business trip would be seen as an admission of failure.”

Meghan nevertheless remains focused on settling her children and supporting Harry as he handles ongoing family tensions that have only worsened after the king’s letter.

The Letter Of Contention That Shook The Sussexes

The Sussexes’ return made it necessary to clarify their position with the rest of the royal family as confusion about whether they were to be treated as working royals crept up.

Clarification came in the form of a letter written by the Lord Chamberlain Richard Benyon on behalf of King Charles III.

The letter was received by senior government and military officials and reaffirmed Harry and Meghan’s status as non-working members of the royal family, emphasizing that they are to remain “private citizens.”

According to the BBC, the letter read, “It is well known that in January 2020 the Duke and Duchess stepped down from undertaking representative duties on behalf of the Sovereign, and are no longer working members of the Royal Family.”

Harry and Meghan’s HRH styles remain in abeyance, and their charitable and commercial interests are to be undertaken in their capacity as private citizens without connection to the royal establishment.

The letter was reportedly issued in response to requests for guidance, and it ruled out the possibility of a “half-in and half-out “royal arrangement the late Queen Elizabeth rejected in 2020.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are effectively barred from engaging in public activities on behalf of the Crown or acting as representatives for the royal organization.

The release of the letter reportedly caught the duke and duchess off guard, and they didn’t like that they allegedly weren’t given enough time to make clarifications before it was released to the media.

Besides the timeframe between receiving the letter and its delivery to the media being supposedly inadequate, the couple was also bothered by their designation as “private citizens.”

A source close to the couple told People Magazine, “They are public figures. Members of the public know who they are. The idea that they can live a normal, ‘private’ life is sadly not realistic.”

For the Sussexes, being treated as private citizens despite receiving formal guidance from the royal family has implications for their security arrangements, which Harry has been concerned about.

The letter meant to be a clarification to avoid confusion ended up worsening tensions between the Sussexes and the rest of the royal family and added to Meghan’s worries.

King Charles has also reportedly now cut off direct communication with the Sussexes until further notice.
