It seems a long time ago when six friends decided to meet at a coffee shop every day in Manhattan. Well, because it was indeed a long time ago when we saw Matt LeBlanc’s antics as Joey or Matthew Perry’s sarcasm as Chandler Bing.
It has been almost 30 years since the first episode of FRIENDS aired and the world was introduced to Joey, Chandler, Phoebe, Rachel, Monica, and, Ross. However, the iconic American sitcom remains timeless even after all these years.
Matt LeBlanc Is Joey In Real Life!
Naturally, since the actor portrayed such a brilliant role, it was bound to happen eventually that some traits of Joey Tribbiani would be adapted by Matt LeBlanc.
Throughout all the 10 seasons of the show, Joey Tribbiani is a character that you can count on to be clumsy. Doing antics, breaking furniture, or having a crush on his friend’s partner, Tribbiani has done it all.
So it didn’t come as a surprise when, during filming, Matt LeBlanc accidentally dislocated his shoulder. In the episode titled “The One Where No One’s Ready”, Le Blanc and Matthew Perry compete for the couch. Things, however, do not go according to the plan.
In an interview with Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live, here’s how LeBlanc recalled that episode.
That [episode] is ironically the one where I dislocated my shoulder. Yeah, it was… the audience that night was made up of all the Diet Coke contest winners.
He further continued,
Chandler and I are fighting over the big down chair. So we like, race to the chair and I have to just step over the coffee table and land on this big huge comfortable chair. And somehow I ended up completely upside down and just exploded my shoulder.
The actor further continued “Everybody thought it was part of the show and laughing and I’m like ‘Yeah… pretty funny'”. Speaking of accidents, this wasn’t the only wild thing that went down on the set of FRIENDS.
With numerous plot changes, on-and-off relationships, and, changing intimacies, the love life of all the six characters was iconic. There was an idea that two characters were having casual s*x all the time but was quickly scrapped.
Joey Tribbiani Is A Womanizer After All!
Throughout the 10 seasons of the show, Joey has been with a lot of women. With his iconic catchphrase of “How you doin?” and multiple jokes about s*x, Joey became loved by the world.
So, it came as a shock to people when Matt LeBlanc revealed that there was a plan for his character to be involved in casual s*x with someone. Speaking to People, the actor revealed that the idea was ultimately scrapped.
Towards the end we actually pitched the idea that Joey and Phoebe had been having casual s*x the entire time.
He further continued,
We’d go back and shoot all the historical scenes and just before a moment that everyone recognizes, there’s Joey and Phoebe coming out of a broom closet together.
Luckily, the idea was scrapped, and Joey and Phoebe remained good friends until the end. The show went on to become a pop culture phenomenon on a global scale and is still one of the most talked-about American sitcoms in the world.
FRIENDS received a rating of 8.9/10 on IMDB and an average of 78% on Rotten Tomatoes. With 10 seasons to its name, the iconic show is available to stream on Max in the U.S.
