Carrie Fisher revealed a bombshell: she and Ford had an “intense” affair while filming A New Hope in 1976 (via PEOPLE). No one—especially their co-star Mark Hamill—had a clue.

It wasn’t until after the shoot wrapped that Star Wars editor Marcia Lucas—who also happened to be George Lucas’ wife at the time—let him in on the secret. Hamill confessed:
I’m glad I didn’t know before, as it probably really would have affected me. By the time I found out, I just thought it was hilarious. But you know men – even if we don’t want to have a relationship, it’s just in our nature to jockey for affection.
By the time Hamill found out, he couldn’t help but chuckle at the situation. “I just thought it was hilarious,” he said. During a chat with Entertainment Tonight, he admitted he was “blissfully unaware” of what was going on between his co-stars.
“I was so self-involved at that point, they could’ve been doing it in front of me and I wouldn’t have noticed,” Hamill shared, adding that he was simply too wrapped up in his own world to catch on.
I was single and had my own agenda.

A tiny part of me felt like I’d won the man lottery, and here I was both counting and spending the money. I was shocked by the fact that he fancied me. I was so inexperienced, but I trusted something about him.
The revelation was seismic. Yet, as explosive as it was, Harrison Ford took it all with remarkable grace. In fact, he didn’t stir the pot further.
When asked about Fisher’s memoir in an interview with GQ, Ford was notably restrained. He admitted to feeling uncomfortable with the release of such personal details about their past. “With Carrie’s untimely passing, I don’t really feel that it’s a subject that I want to discuss,” Ford said, choosing silence over scandal. His respect for Fisher, even in the aftermath of her passing, was clear.
