Germany national team goalkeeper Manuel Neuer has confirmed he will hang up the gloves at international level indefinitely after the current 2026 World Cup ends.

“This will be my last tournament for Germany. I'm not planning on playing the Euros in two years. But I want to look forward to every game and not think about a farewell or potential last game,” he said at Germany's press conference.

Regarding the tournament itself and whether Germany can win it all, Neuer believes they can go all the way. He also thinks the position is in good hands going forward with Jonas Urbig.

"I absolutely believe the team is capable of [winning] it, otherwise I wouldn't be here. To win my second World Cup would of course be very special for me. If I didn't see a chance, I wouldn't be sitting here today.

“Jonas is on a very good path and has it all in his own hands. But I also have to say that my other colleagues are doing very well at their clubs. I have respect for all our goalkeepers," he said.

Having come out of retirement to represent the four-time world champions, Neuer revealed he still holds a “very good relationship” with Oliver Baumann whom he ousted from between the sticks.

“In Herzogenaurach, we talked at length with each other regarding the development. We found open words there. Oli did an outstanding job – we have four top goalkeepers,” he added.
