B.C. conservation officers say at around 5 p.m., a man was walking his two off-leash dogs on his farm property when he was attacked by the bear.

He scrambled under a barbed wire fence and the bear disengaged and ran off. He was taken to hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries to his leg, officers say.

RCMP and conservation officers responded to the attack site but did not find the bear.

According to the Conservation Officer Service, the officers have determined the attack was defensive and there is no continued threat to public safety.

Trail cameras have been placed in the area to monitor bear activity.
