An industrial accident has claimed the life of a man in North York.

Toronto Police say the man fell while on an escalator in the Empress Walk Plaza at Yonge St. and Empress Ave. – north of Sheppard Ave. – around 5:03 p.m. on Thursday.
The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his not has not been released.
The plaza was evacuated and shut down following the deadly incident.
Toronto cops say the Ministry of Labour has been notified.
RioCan issued an official statement following the death saying, “We are deeply saddened by this incident and extend our sincere condolences to the individual’s family and loved ones.”
“RioCan has fully cooperated with the investigation. We defer any questions regarding the incident to Toronto Police and are unable to comment further.”

Hamilton Police say officers responded to reports of an assault in a parking lot in the area of Upper Wellington St. and Concession St. around 9:35 p.m.
Police learned that a female victim had allegedly been involved in a verbal dispute with two women over a parking issue and the victim was allegedly punched, pulled to the ground, and dragged by her hair while the assailants uttered racial slurs at the victim.
The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. Hamilton Paramedics were notified, but she declined going to the hospital.
The women fled the area in a white Lexus SUV prior to police arrival but investigators were able to identify two suspects believed to have been involved.
On Wednesday and Thursday, respectively, a 22-year-old woman and 26-year-old woman were charged with assault causing bodily harm.

Pedestrian hit by SUV in Hamilton
A 54-year-old pedestrian suffered serious, life-altering injuries in Hamilton when he was struck by an SUV at a bus shelter on Thursday afternoon.

Hamilton Police allege a Ford Edge SUV exited the parking lot of the Tim Hortons Plaza onto King St. E., travelled west and lost control, striking the victim waiting as he waited for a bus in the area of Dundurn St. N. just after 4:30 p.m.
The man was taken to hospital and the female driver of the Ford Edge was uninjured.
Any potential witnesses to this collision are urged to come forward.
Investigators are also requesting any motorists in the area at the time of the collision to check their dash cameras and any residences or businesses in the area with surveillance cameras to review their camera footage.

Boy, 13, hit by vehicle in Ajax
A 13-year-old boy is in hospital with non-life-threatening injuries after being struck by a vehicle in Ajax on Thursday.
Durham Regional Police officers responded to the collision at Harwood Ave. N. and Rossland Rd. W. around 6:30 p.m.

The boy was riding a scooter westbound across the intersection when he was hit by the southbound vehicle, police said.
The driver of the vehicle remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

Motorcyclist killed in Ajax crash
A 34-year-old motorcyclist was killed in a collision in Ajax on Thursday afternoon.
Durham Regional Police say a grey/silver Honda motorcycle was travelling south on Harwood Ave. N., approaching Kerrison Dr. E., when a black Chevrolet Malibu that was travelling north on Harwood Ave. N. allegedly turned left into the bike’s path around 3:45 p.m.
Prior to the crash, police claim the motorcycle was observed by witnesses travelling at a high rate of speed.
The man riding the motorcycle was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries and was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the Malibu remained on scene and is cooperating with police.
There were no other injuries.

Moped rider seriously injury in Vaughan crash
Investigators are appealing for witnesses following a collision involving a moped in Vaughan on Thursday.
York Regional Police say officers responded to the intersection of Rutherford Rd. and Islington Ave. for reports of a two-vehicle collision involving a moped and an SUV around 5:30 p.m.
The rider of the moped, a 58-year-old man from Brampton, was transported to hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries and the driver of the SUV remained at the scene.
Investigators are appealing to any witnesses who have not yet spoken with police, and to anyone who may have dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision, to come forward.
