With Deniz Undav sidelined by injury, Jamie Leweling was thrown into Germany's lineup for his debut against the Netherlands on Monday.

And it's safe to say that the 23-year-old ended up playing a key role, scoring Germany's winner in the second half. But he was humble about his performance when he spoke to German television after the game.

"I'm happy I could help. We won as a team," said the Stuttgart winger.

After just 100 seconds, Leweling thought he had scored the opener, but the goal was disallowed when Serge Gnarby was adjudged to be offside in the build-up.

Leweling briefly thought the same would happen when he found the back of the net again in the second half.

“Schlotterbeck came up to me and said he thought he was offside. That scared me. But luckily it counted.”
