A DIFFERENT OUTCOME
Imagine Donald Trump as the U.S. president at the time of the Second World War. Some of us have seen the Hitler parodies as he calls Trump on the phone, but seriously, how would the current president have acted? If his actions during his second term are any indication, it’s safe to say he’d have coddled up to Adolph Hitler and Benito Mussolini and claimed that Japan was ready to surrender long before the Manhattan Project was underway. If you think he would have acted in the same vein as FDR, consider today’s world, where Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy was insulted in the White House and blamed for starting Russia’s invasion of Ukraine; Trump’s behaviour towards his NATO Allies including our Canada; how he has courted war criminals Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, and the list goes on. Now he’d rather buy potash from Putin’s staunchest ally, Belarus. Yes, the Second World War would have taken a different and scarier course, had Trump been U.S. president.

NO CHANGE UNTIL HAMAS IS GONE
Re “Hamas deserves plenty of blame among the ‘Free Palestine’ crowd (Jerry Agar, Sept. 21): I couldn’t agree more with Agar’s column on why no one condemned Hamas in Gaza. Lots of famous people with a platform go on and on about the subject, but no mention of Hamas’ atrocities. Why doesn’t the faculty lounge or the enlightened students go over there and try to reason with them? Until Hamas is gone, nothing will change.

NO PRINCIPLED POLITICIANS
Re “Antisemitism the new normal in Canada” (Editorial, Sept. 21): It’s never wrong to do the right thing, like enforcing the law without fear or favour. Shame on politicians who have abandoned principle for vote count. I want to believe that there is a silent majority who would support political stand of clear moral clarity if any level of government had the courage to do their job.
