LET CANADIANS DECIDE

If the Canadian government thinks that we should become an associate member of the EU, then the whole deal needs to be presented to us, including what’s involved with joining and if necessary, what’s involved if later modifying or leaving the arrangement so
that all of us mature educated Canadian citizens can vote on this matter affecting our country.

(Carney believes he has a mandate to do this very thing, but there was no hint of it during the recent election. Certainly, we need to expand our trade partnerships around the world, but this is more than that and Canadians need to have a say)

CARNEY SHOWS NO RESPECT

The conduct of Prime Minister Mark Carney in seeking closer ties with the EU is undemocratic, dishonest, and disrespectful to the Canadian people. Prime Minister Carney does not have the mandate to do this. The prime minister should respect the dignity and sovereignty of the Canadian people and put the question of pivoting away from America to a referendum on a detailed proposal of the new plan for Canada. We, the Canadian people, want to be a nation, not an EU member in any shape or form!

If you’re old enough, you’ll remember seeing cigarette and cigar advertising on TV and in magazines. The Marlboro cowboy, John Wayne and even doctors promoted cigarette smoking. It was seen as cool, even sexy, until the medical profession ended Sir Walter Raleigh’s tobacco reign with the irrefutable evidence of the link between smoking and lung cancer. The addictive aspects of smoking have since been shown to be as strong as heroin addiction. Tobacco advertising was banned decades ago and the promotion of alcohol consumption has strict controls, but gambling, specifically the online variety, is practically in your face since controls were loosened. For some, gambling is an addiction, one which can lead to depression and in extreme cases suicide. However, the ads continue and are glamourized with attractive women and famous celebs telling you to make it legendary. It’s also worth noting that American online gambling sites predominate the media and often target younger viewers. Isn’t it time to put some limits on the promotion of gambling?
