SOCIAL MEDIA DYNAMITE
On the morning of Aug. 9, 1974, millions watched as disgraced U.S. president Richard Nixon bid farewell to White House staffers in the Rose Garden. Their sorrow turned to anxiety as Nixon suddenly veered off script and began to emotionally free-associate, invoking painful memories of his early life and family hardship in poverty. But he soon reined himself in. No one imagined that a time would come when a U.S. president given a platform on social media would routinely post outrageous messages, rife with emotional, personal content that would engender controversy on an industrial scale. Donald Trump is your one-man wrecking crew of presidential dignity, credibility and sanity, with nightly rapid-fire social media messaging his TNT.

(If only his staff could control at least this aspect of his presidency)
NO DIFFERENCE
Re “Dazed and confused” (Steve Simmons, May 5): If Keith Pelley interviewed 27 people and John Chayka is the best he could come up with, we are in deep trouble, once again! They brought in Jim Treliving, he couldn’t do the job in Calgary, and now Chayka couldn’t do it in Phoenix — what makes them think it will be any different here? Sure hope I am wrong!

CULTURE OF FAILURE
It’s obvious to me that the people who are running Canada are the same people who are running the Maple Leafs — failure all around! The latest hires by the Leafs show that they are either totally incompetent or just don’t care about winning. Mats Sundin is a hockey player — simple! What does he know about winning? The new GM, John Chayka, has made some bone-headed moves in the past — so it looks like more years of futility! Nothing against age but at 36 what does he know about winning? Nadda! As for the Liberals, see above!

(It’s a real losing attitude. How Canadians – and Leafs fans tolerate it is mind-boggling)
