Re “City of Toronto writes off nearly $400Gs worth of bikes in three-year span” (Justin Holmes, July 17): The Toronto Parking Authority (TPA) claims that the nearly $400,000 in losses cited by IntegrityTO for the Bike Share program are inaccurate. Yet, in a 2024 internal email a TPA director described losses totalling $680,000 for missing bikes. Writing in 2025, a TPA manager noted a $191,400 write-off in missing bikes for 2024 alone. So, the evidence suggests that the figures IntegrityTO provided are probably too low. Moreover, it’s apparent that the TPA cannot properly secure and account for its fleet of 11,000 bikes. Maybe it’s time to downsize the fleet.

Re “Taxpayers in the dark on pipeline costs” (Editorial, July 15): So, let me get this straight. For years we’ve heard that Canada needs pipelines and governments were blamed for preventing them. Yet there was never a lineup of private oil companies saying, ‘We’ll build it. We’ll pay for it.’ Now, when governments step in because the private sector wouldn’t, everyone acts shocked that public dollars may be involved. You can’t have it both ways. Either you want the pipeline built, or you don’t. Or is this just another Toronto Sun clickbait article meant to stir outrage instead of acknowledging the reality that major nation-building infrastructure often requires public investment?
