The U.S. war with Iran and Iran’s control of the Strait of Hormuz (President Donald Trump’s Achilles heel) will certainly lead to his downfall. There is no end in sight regarding the safe movement of one fifth of the world’s supply of oil and other important goods through this strait. Trump can’t lie his way out of his huge blunder this time.

(Time will tell)

NO NOTHING CARNEY

Prime Minister Mark Carney almost daily is talking about deals and projects he is making and starting. Besides being overwhelming and to cost billions if not trillions of dollars, how many of these ideas and projects will actually come to fruition and to what enormous debt to taxpayers? Talk is cheap. Action is real. We shall see. Hazel McCallion used to say do your homework before promising anything. Carney should heed to that.

(It’s one thing to sign an MOU, which basically means sure we will talk again but where is the actual deal?)

ADVISING THE ADVISORS

Re “Canada announces CUSMA advisers” (Bryan Passifiume, April 22): Elvis Presley’s iconic 1968 hit says it all: “A little less conversation, a little more action please.” Next thing on Carney’s agenda is probably forming a panel of advisors to advise his U.S. relations advisors.

(Carney definitely likes advisory panels to meet and discuss big issues. But if it amounts to nothing, it’s pointless)

LET’S MAKE A DEAL

Will long-time loyal Liberals get the deals the Conservative floor crossers get?

Robert Black

(Not likely)

WASTE OF SPACE

How many tax dollars are to be wasted on the biggest vanity project of them all, ‘The Last Frontier’? A roller-coaster ride around the moon with a crapper that doesn’t work, and you honestly think that we can have a Mars base? Can’t even retrieve an astronaut stranded on the space station just 400 km above our sea level. About that crapper: Best to consult with Howard Wolowitz before next mission.

Bill Vernon

(Why the space hate? It remains one of humanities greatest accomplishments going beyond our planet)
