PARTY COLLAPSING
When Mike Dawson stood up and refused to accept the totally unwarranted annual pay raise for federal MPs, he provided the Conservatives with a potential knock-out blow to undermine the Liberal Party. But Pierre Poilievre fumbled on the goal line. Even when it became clear that much of the electorate condemned the raise, Poilievre remained deaf. Talk about ‘not reading the room.’ If there was ever an ‘own goal’ in politics, Poilievre scored! The result — I believe — began the internal collapse of the Conservative Party that we are witnessing in real time. The defections by Conservative MPs is not about suddenly recognizing the brilliance of Mark Carney. It is the realization that Poilievre has shown he is not a real leader. When he decided to ignore the obvious will of the majority, he showed that he has no real Conservative convictions and no visible pathway to success. As a life-long small ‘c’ conservative, I am saddened that over the past several months the only contact I have had with my Conservative MP has been a relentless plea for donations. A Conservative Party that thinks real leadership can be replaced by a full war chest has already lost.

(This could be one of the many contributing factors to what is going wrong inside the conservative caucus)
WHAT’S THE ALTERNATIVE?
Don’t miss Lorrie Goldstein’s proposed solution to climate change in his anti-rant rant (“Climate hysteria wasted our money, failed to reduce need for fossil fuels,” April 18). He gives us the answer in a nutshell. He kindly states, “People are not monsters. Provide them with goods and services that lower their emissions while not bankrupting them.” I couldn’t agree more. So far, the various means to the end have been bungled or blocked for a lot of reasons. This problem can be alleviated by shifting finances away from fossil fuels, as suggested by Sen. Rosa Galvez. No hysteria. Transition to renewables.

(It’s not an unreasonable solution Lorrie has proposed. But because of so much money to be made in climate hysteria, logic isn’t exercised)
