Much like the first installment, even Squid Game Season 2 established itself as one of the most iconic productions of the decade, garnering massive praise and success on Netflix. In the aftermath, people are now eagerly awaiting the third season to drop this year. But meanwhile, Leonardo DiCaprio surprisingly made headlines for his rumored appearance in the final season.
Amid fans losing their minds over the introduction of the new doll in the mid-credit scene of Squid Game S2, Leonardo DiCaprio shockingly sparked strong rumors of joining the cast of the Netflix show for S3. Meanwhile, whether or not DiCaprio joins forces with Lee Jung-jae, there appeared another report about the Oscar winner’s appearance in Damien Chazelle’s next film on Evel Knievel.
Leonardo DiCaprio sparked rumors about joining Squid Game season 3
Since the release of Hwang Dong-hyeok’s Squid Game S2 on December 26, 2024, fans of the popular Netflix series have been going crazy over the sequel. With new games and grittier storyline, people simply lost their minds when the mid-credit scene introduced the doll Chul-su, the counterpart of Young-hee, who’s set to be an integral part of the life-threatening Red Light, Green Light game in season 3.
Meanwhile, amid new surprises and heartbreaking twists, Marca reported a strong rumor that originated from South Korean media, surrounding Leonardo DiCaprio‘s appearance in Squid Game S3. According to speculations, it was reported that the Oscar winner would be joining the cast of the Netflix show for the final season, all because he was seen during a gala with Seong Gi-hun actor Lee Jung-jae.
However, as per reports from DailyMail, Netflix has apparently debunked the speculation, saying in a statement that the rumors of Leonardo DiCaprio’s “involvement in Squid Game Season 3 are entirely unfounded”. Sorry to break the bubble, but it seems that the Titanic star won’t be starring alongside Lee Jung-jae after all in the popular show. But that doesn’t negate the possibility of the duo working together on future projects.
Leonardo DiCaprio will reportedly work on Damien Chazelle’s Oscar-worthy film
As of now, although the rumors of Leonardo DiCaprio’s appearance in Squid Game were shot down by Netflix, the actor made headlines for his alleged appearance in Damien Chazelle’s upcoming movie. According to reports from World of Reel, it was noted that while Chazelle has been working on Evel Knievel’s biopic, DiCaprio might star in a crucial role.
Instead of simply narrating the rise and fall of the renowned stunt devil Evel Knievel, in his film titled Evel Knievel on Tour, Damien Chazelle is said to set the story in a single year, 1974, and feature Knievel’s ambitious plan of jumping across Idaho’s Snake River on his motorcycle. As of now, plot details and casting surrounding the movie have been kept under tight wraps.
While there have been rumors of Damien Chazelle working on this potential biopic since April 2024, the supposed shoot set to happen in the fall of that year never happened. However, Chazelle later told Vanity Fair that he has been working on two projects, including the biopic, and doesn’t know which one was going to get made first. But on a positive note Evel Knievel’s movie is still in development.
Squid Game is currently available to watch on Netflix.
