Invisible Woman and Punisher

SUMMARY

  • Marvel Rivals is bringing the Fantastic Four's Invisible Woman and Mr. Fantastic in Season 1.
  • With Invisible Woman's deployable shield and The Punisher's deployable turret, there might be a strat there.
  • Season 1 is most definitely going to continue the success of the game's first launch when it comes out in January 10th.

Marvel Rivals is one of the biggest games in the world right now and it’s gearing up for the release of its first season. And one of the biggest announcements for the upcoming season is the two new characters of Reed Richard’s Mr. Fantastic and Sue Storm’s Invisible Woman.

Sue Storm’s abilities in particular have interested fans as they theorize a potential synergy with The Punisher. With her ability to deploy a shield in battle, maybe we’ll see a ‘pirate ship’ strategy in Marvel Rivals like the one in Overwatch. The game is still hot off of its release in December 2024 and Season 1 is going to be even more hype.

The Invisible Woman could bring back a popular Overwatch comp in Marvel Rivals

Susan Storm’s abilities in NetEase’s hero shooter will be true to the comic books. Her force fields protect allies and herself from harm, while her invisibility lets her stealthily maneuver the battlefield. This versatility allows her to disrupt enemy strategies, support teammates, and secure objectives. Her deployable shield, in particular, could have an interesting use.

Cosmic rays altered Susan Storm on a cellular level, granting her the ability to generate impenetrable force fields and to make herself fade from sight in an instant. But before we look at this potential strategy, you need to know about another character. Frank Castle, aka The Punisher, is already a standout hero in Marvel Rivals. With his dual weapon systems, deployable turret, and powerful ultimate ability, he dishes out damage across various ranges. His turret doesn’t suffer damage falloff and provides him with a second health bar which is pretty sick.

So what if you put these two characters together? Is it a recipe for disaster or outright destruction? The Punisher could set up his Culling Turret behind Invisible Woman’s shield and absolutely shred enemies. Does it sound a bit familiar? That’s because there was a similar strategy to this in Overwatch called ‘the pirate ship’.

|| pirate ship comp has to be my least favorite thing to go against.

which is saying a lot considering I hate a lot of things in overwatch, like dealing with Pharmercy.

The “Pirate Ship” composition, popularized in Overwatch used a stationary damage-dealer like Bastion protected by shields and support. In Marvel Rivals, Punisher can fill the Bastion role with his turret, while Invisible Woman provides shields and stealth to keep him safe.

NetEase has succeeded in creating a good live-service game

Season 1 of Marvel Rivals is introducing several new features, maps, and heroes, including other members of the Fantastic Four. Mr. Fantastic has already debuted alongside Sue Storm and will also have abilities true to the comics. Invisible Woman is also a big addition to the Strategist role for those who enjoy supporting their team while still having an impact in fights.

Since its December 6 launch, Marvel Rivals has maintained a strong player base, with a peak of over 400,000 concurrent players. Unlike other live-service games that see rapid drop-offs, Marvel Rivals has managed to keep players engaged through its free-to-play model and interactive gameplay.

The upcoming additions of Invisible Woman and other Fantastic Four members are expected to sustain this momentum, especially as players experiment with new strategies and team compositions. The developers at NetEase have skillfully balanced the live service aspect with the competitive shooter aspect this time with the Marvel IP providing a strong foundation.

What do you think of this potential synergy between the two Marvel characters? Let us know in the comments!
