Laimer frustrated by "really strange" refereeing calls against PSG

The Austrian felt PSG full-back Nuno Mendes should have been sent off for a handball which would have been his second bookable offence.

After Bayern Munich's Champions League dreams were dashed this evening, Konrad Laimer questioned why Nuno Mendes wasn't sent off for a second bookable offence in the first-half. 

“You don't feel it during the game itself. I thought I had played the ball with my stomach, and then Mendes with his hand. The referee whistled for handball five seconds later. That's really strange,” Laimer told DAZN. 

The Austrian was left mystified by the Portuguese arbiter's decision to award PSG a free. He adjudged Laimer of a handball instead – replays showed this was not the case. 

"Things could definitely have gone better for us today, including the other handball. Since when does the fourth official intervene in the game? I've never experienced that before.

“But that's not my business; I can't change it now anyway. That would have been a decisive moment if PSG had lost a player so early,” said Laimer, visibly irritated by several decisions.

Regarding the game itself, which ended in a 1-1 stalemate and a 6-5 defeat on aggregate, Laimer didn't think his side were inferior. Rather luck fell the way of the Parisians. 

"In games like these, it comes down to a few small details. I always felt we could turn things around. But today it wasn't enough. That's really tough.

“That one goal came a little too late. If it comes a bit earlier, then the whole stadium comes alive again, the way it was there throughout the game, and then maybe we can still go on and win the game.

"We felt we were dominant, we had our chances, PSG had theirs. In the end, it came down to details," explained the 28-year-old before heading for the dressing rooms.
