King Charles has been on a stripping streak of honors for different infringements, ranging from sexual offenses to criminal activities.

Just this year alone, he has reportedly stripped 10 people of their honors and titles.

Last year, the King didn’t spare his own brother, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, when it was revealed he’d acted in a manner that brought shame to the royal family with his ties to the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

King Charles is hell-bent on keeping the Crown free of any dent or scandal, as well as ensuring those connected in one way or another maintain the utmost reverence for it in their words, deeds, and conduct.

Reports suggest the ruling monarch has rescinded the honors and awards conferred on 10 people this year for different degrees of offenses.

The most recent of his sanctions came in July when he canceled and annulled the knighthood conferred on former DUP leader Jeffrey Donaldson following his conviction for child sex offenses.

A July 23 notice published in the London Gazette revealed that Charles had “directed the cancellation and annulment of the Knighthood conferred upon Jeffrey Mark Donaldson on June 11, 2016 as a Knight Bachelor,” per The Daily Echo.

The former member of parliament was convicted on 18 counts of sex abuse, including one count of rape, committed against two women when they were children, per the BBC.

Donaldson, who’s due to be sentenced later this year, had previously requested that his knighthood be forfeited and that he resign, but it was ultimately left to Charles to decide.

Charles’ decision to remove Donaldson’s knighthood was praised by the leader of the Oxfordshire Conservatives, Liam Walker.

Mr. Walker said, “Honors are awarded to recognize outstanding service and achievement, and anyone convicted of serious criminal offenses has forfeited the privilege of holding them.”

He added, “Stripping those honors helps protect the integrity and value of the honors system.”

Nine Others Lose Their Honors For Criminal And Professional Offenses

Other individuals who have suffered the same fate as Donaldson include Ian Ashbolt, who lost the MBE conferred on him in 2016 for a criminal conviction, and Lloyd Hamilton, who lost his 2011 MBE for the same reason.

Angela Middleton’s 2019 MBE was yanked off for “bringing the honors system into disrepute,” while Nigel O’Connor lost his due to professional censure.

Tony Reilly’s 2011 OBE was also removed for professional censure, and Anant Shah lost his 2020 OBE for “bringing the honors system into disrepute.”

Names like Paul Rose, Graham Trewhella, and former Scotland rugby captain Stuart Hogg completed the list for criminal convictions and animal welfare and domestic abuse offenses.

Charles’ Younger Brother Suffered The Same Fate

The most high-profile of such annulments came last year when Charles stripped his younger brother, Andrew Mountbatten Windsor, of his “prince” title and honors amid accusations of sexual misconduct.

The decision came after the former Duke of York’s ties to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein became public knowledge, although he denies any wrongdoing. The situation caused the royal family to suffer massive backlash from fans, as many suspected institutional backing had helped cover his tracks.

However, Charles released a statement distancing the monarchy from him while also ordering him to leave his Royal Lodge apartment.

“His Majesty has today initiated a formal process to remove the Style, Titles and Honors of Prince Andrew,” Buckingham Palace said in a statement at the time, per the BBC.

“His lease on Royal Lodge has, to date, provided him with legal protection to continue in residence,” the statement continued. “Formal notice has now been served to surrender the lease, and he will move to alternative private accommodation. These censures are deemed necessary, notwithstanding the fact that he continues to deny the allegations against him.”

“Their Majesties wish to make clear that their thoughts and utmost sympathies have been, and will remain with, the victims and survivors of any and all forms of abuse,” the palace added.

Prince William Encouraged Charles To ‘Banish’ Andrew

It is understood that the King’s heir, Prince William, played a major role in the decision, as he has a no-nonsense stance on issues affecting the monarchy.

Earlier reports suggested that William favored a harsher punishment for Andrew and had previously encouraged his father and late grandmother, Queen Elizabeth, to “banish” him following an interview he gave in 2019.

Amid the disturbing revelations about Andrew’s misconduct, the Prince of Wales was said to be “annoyed and frustrated” by how the “Andrew’s issue” had been handled.

Royal author Andrew Lownie told the i Paper that William did not like how Andrew continued to be treated with soft gloves.

“[William] is annoyed and frustrated that the buck keeps being passed on the Andrew issue – that the Queen passed it to Charles, and Charles has had three years to address this, and hasn’t really done it. There’s some tension about that,” the expert said.

To worsen the situation, the former prince was later arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office, leaving the Firm susceptible to more backlash.
