Imagine pitching a series to production houses about a sly lawyer with colorful ties who loves to prank his colleagues. Chances are the idea would get rejected. That’s not what happened to legendary series creator Vince Gilligan though!

It all started with a simple idea that stemmed while they were filming the iconic AMC show Breaking Bad. That idea earned 53 Primetime Emmy nods and created an iconic show. Marvel president Kevin Feige can actually learn quite a lot from Mr. Gilligan for future MCU shows.

How Vince Gilligan Came Up With The Idea of Better Call Saul!

It was the year 2008 when the world was introduced to the tight-white underpants of Walter White and his iconic RV van. Winning critical acclaim and worldwide fame, Breaking Bad went on to become one of the best shows of all time.

Winning 16 Primetime Emmys during the 5 season run of the show, Breaking Bad was praised and loved by millions of people. A spin-off titled Better Call Saul was also created, which went on to earn 53 Primetime Emmy nominations as well.

In an interview with The Guardian, the veteran creator talked about how they came up with the idea of the infamous character of Saul Goodman.

The original idea for the character was that Walter White needed a consigliere, like Tom Hagan was to Michael Corleone in The Godfather.

He further continued,

We thought, ‘What kind of mob lawyer would Walter White deserve?’ and decided it’d be this lime-and-orange sherbert-coloured doofus with the styrofoam columns and mullet haircut.

With the success that Bob Odenkirk found as Saul Goodman, the creator decided that the character needed his own spin-off. Thus, came the iconic show Better Call Saul.

The point was that it was a bonkers idea that Gilligan decided to create a show out of it. It is often seen that Gilligan’s shows are grounded in reality. With the same technique, Kevin Feige’s Marvel could do a lot better with their shows!

Kevin Feige Should Also Delve Into Such Ideas

It has been more than 100 years since Marvel Comics was founded and thus, the creators of the Marvel Cinematic Universe have literally limitless source content to go through.

After the events of Avengers: Endgame, fans feel that the quality of the MCU dropped drastically. Although shows like WandaVision and Loki managed to keep the audiences hooked, most of the MCU shows received terrible ratings.

It does seem that Marvel is struggling a bit on the television/streaming part and Kevin Feige could learn a lot from Vince Gilligan. With the crazy ideas that Gilligan has, Feige could also delve into similar ideas.

These ideas do work as Guardians of the Galaxy is one of the best examples of a bonkers idea making its way to the big screen via the MCU. The shows have been dipping in quality but Marvel Studios has a huge budget that they could easily use on its shows. The only thing lacking is a good (bonkers) idea to make the show worthwhile.

Better Call Saul ran for 6 seasons and received a rating of 9/10 on IMDB and a whopping 98% on Rotten Tomatoes. With Bob Odenkirk in the lead, Better Call Saul is available to stream on Netflix in the U.S.

PS – It’s all good, man!
