Keanu Reeves‘ next big sci-fi epic has landed a release date of August 2027 (via The Hollywood Reporter). Currently titled Shiver, the movie comes from director Tim Miller, notable for helming the first Deadpool movie, with Matthew Vaughn, Aaron Ryder, Andrew Swett, and John Zaozirny serving as producers.
Miller will direct the movie from Ian Shorr’s script, which comprises shades of Tom Cruise‘s Edge of Tomorrow and Blake Lively‘s The Shallows, blending the former’s time loop element with the latter’s shark survival.
What is Keanu Reeves’ Shiver About?
As for the plot, the movie follows a smuggler who is double-crossed in the Caribbean, leading to him being hunted by both hostile mercenaries and thirsty sharks. As if that weren’t enough, he also finds himself trapped in a time loop, where the Edge of Tomorrow parallels come in.
Considering Tim Miller has delivered bold and high-concept projects before, whether it was Deadpool, which helped redefine R-rated CBMs, or his work on Love, Death, & Robots, it’ll be interesting to see how he approaches a sci-fi of this scale. Moreover, this could also serve as the next big thing for the Matrix star, whose last major box-office success dates back to John Wick: Chapter 4.
Can Shiver Fill the Edge of Tomorrow Sequel Void?
While the 2010s saw Cruise mostly deliver Mission: Impossible movies, another one of his major highlights from the last decade was Doug Liman’s Edge of Tomorrow, and fans have been longing for a sequel for years.

With Reeves’ sci-fi outing aiming for a 2027 release date, given the uncertainty surrounding Cruise-led production, this does have the potential to satisfy fans’ appetite for more Edge of Tomorrow-esque stories.
If we’re lucky, the production on Edge of Tomorrow might also commence later this year. Given that Cruise’s commitment to the Mission: Impossible franchise has concluded, and both Liman and Emily Blunt remain eager to return to the IP, there’s no reason why a sequel won’t get materialized in the foreseeable future. For now, Reeves’ upcoming sci-fi venture, set against the backdrop of sharks, has the potential to deliver the same thrill next year.
