Julian Schuster tells Freiburg to ‘enjoy the moment’ after five-goal Gladbach rout

Julian Schuster praised Freiburg’s complete performance after their emphatic victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach, but warned his players not to get carried away by their perfect Bundesliga start.

Julian Schuster has urged Freiburg to enjoy their superb start to the Bundesliga season after Saturday’s dominant victory over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Freiburg ran out 5-0 winners to make it three victories from their opening three league matches, with Schuster's side climbing to the top of the table in the process. 

Despite the emphatic scoreline, the Freiburg boss admitted Gladbach made life difficult early on and praised his players for matching the visitors' early intensity. 

“I thought the opening minutes were very demanding,” Schuster said.

“Gladbach applied a lot of pressure. We really had to put in a huge amount of work defensively.

“That’s something we prepared the boys for, that they would have to accept that challenge, and they did.

“As time went on, they then played their way into the game very well.”

Freiburg’s perfect start has given supporters plenty to celebrate, and Schuster believes his side should appreciate their current position rather than immediately looking beyond it.

“The current picture is nice, also for the fans,” he added.

“You see everyone smiling on a Saturday afternoon and it’s fun.

“We’re enjoying the moment. I think you should always enjoy it and then look forward again and let it go a little bit, because in the end it won’t help us over the next few weeks if we don’t pick up points.

“But we can definitely enjoy the moment.”
