When Josh Hutcherson’s Mike Schmidt landed himself a job as a guard at an abandoned pizzeria, he thought he had a job that would help him make easy money. Little did he know that the nights he was about to have would be the most scary of his life. 

It is at the pizzeria that he came across the animatronics, which he would later discover were ghosts doing the bidding of Matthew Lillard’s William Afton. Though William is taken down for good at the end of the movie, the climax may have confirmed his return for another film.

The animatronics, possessed by the ghosts of the kids who had been killed by William Afton turned on him at the end, marking the end of the line for the serial killer. But right when’s he dragged out of his animatronic suit and stabbed, he makes a promise.

Lillard’s character went on to say, “I always come back.” Not many fans might have paid attention to these words, but it looks like they should have. Considering the fact that Five Nights at Freddy’s didn’t confirm his death, these lines might reveal what lies ahead.

It remains to be seen how Afton makes his way to the next movie – as a human or as an animatronic. No matter the form, his thirst for blood most probably will still be at its peak, an imperative for the franchise’s success in the long run.
