Jack White’s wife Olivia Jean files for divorce claiming ‘inappropriate marital conduct’

Jack White’s wife wasted no time and hit the singer with divorce papers.

In court documents obtained by TMZ, singer-songwriter Olivia Jean filed for divorce on June 3 — the same day she noted as their separation date.

“Wife would show that Husband is guilty of inappropriate marital conduct, which makes further cohabitation unsafe and improper,” the filing alleges, though no further details were provided.

In Tennessee, “inappropriate marital conduct” is a standard statutory term used in divorce pleadings, according to the outlet.

The complaint states the “date and place of marriage” as December 2022 in Nashville.

In Jean’s filing, she requested financial support, noting she relies on his income for bills and needs to stay on his life insurance policy as a beneficiary.

She also asked that White cover her legal fees as well as any other expenses incurred during the proceedings.

Shock proposal — and wedding

The couple married during a 2022 concert in Detroit.

They were on stage performing a duet of his song Hotel Yorba when he popped the question — right before the line “Let’s get married/In a big cathedral by a priest.”

White also captioned a photo on Instagram of the romantic, spontaneous moment with the same lyric.

Ben Swank, co-founder of White’s Third Man Records, stepped onstage to officiate the impromptu exchange of I dos.

A rep for the White Stripes rocker told People at the time that “the marriage is legal and valid.”

Jean later told the New York Times that it was “the best experience of my life.”

She added: “You could plan a wedding for five years and it wouldn’t compare to that.”

How they met

It was music that brought the White and Jean together.

They first met in 2009, following a concert for his band The Dead Weather, per the Times.

The then-19-year-old frontwoman of the Black Belles laid out a bunch of her demos around White’s tour bus in a very memorable way — which he witnessed.

He later called and invited Jean to record with him in Nashville.

“I put the phone down and then I just laid on the ground for a few minutes,” she recalled to the publication. “Like, this is not real. This can’t be real. This doesn’t happen to people.”

This was White’s third marriage.

He was previously married to White Stripes drummer Meg White from 1996 to 2000, and to model Karen Elson from 2005 to 2013. He shares two children with Elson.
