SUMMARY

  • Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Gaten Matarazzo recently joined forces to celebrate Netflix's Geeked Week.
  • However, fans shared concerns over the actors' appearances, as they no longer resemble their teen selves.
  • One Stranger Things star feels the stakes should be much bigger in the final season.

For years, Hollywood leaned toward casting actors in their late 20s and 30s when it comes to teen roles, as there is often less hassle to work with more experienced actors. Fortunately, Netflix’s Stranger Things, which also served as a big break for the streaming platform, opted to go with actual teens that fit the roles.

However, considering the major gaps between each release, fans feared that the actors would grow out of their roles, and the recent behind-the-scenes footage only aggravated the situation.

On the occasion of Netflix’s Geeked Week, Stranger Things cast members, Finn Wolfhard, Caleb McLaughlin, and Gaten Matarazzo joined forces to surprise their superfans. However, throughout the tour of the set that brings the iconic town of Hawkins to life in the show, fans can’t help but share their distress over the actors’ appearance, who are now young adults.

Considering the characters were 15 in season 4, which ended on a massive cliffhanger, fans feared the characters would no longer resemble their teen selves in the final chapter. It also didn’t help that the show was further delayed as a result of the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes, and the recent behind-the-scenes have further solidified fans’ fear.

But on the flip side, executive producer Shawn Levy assured fans (via Variety) they’ll use every trick up their sleeves to ensure they all resemble their iconic Hawkins characters.

Our hair and makeup and wardrobe department are pretty exceptional, using costumes and wigs and makeup. The ’80s are also our friends in returning these young adult actors to their iconic Hawkins characters. So we’re going to use all the tools available to us

Levy also clarified they will not resort to the assistance of AI to de-age the actors, which has been a subject of controversy in recent years.

While Stranger Things is undoubtedly the biggest IP Netflix has ever produced, the series has often been criticized for not having bigger stakes, and one of its leads, Gaten Matarazzo also agrees with this sentiment. Matarazzo expressed his desire to see the stakes being upped in the final installment, stressing that he wants his character to die in the end.

I’m going to go for myself. Hey, why not? I mean, hope towards the end if it’s going to happen. I want to be in it as much as I can. I want to hang out with my buds as much as I can.

Although time will tell if the stakes will be upped in the series’ conclusion or not, Levy did warn fans to brace themselves, stating that there will be a lot of tearjerkers in the upcoming season.

Stranger Things is available to stream on Netflix.
