He will be next seen in Luca Guaagnino’s romantic drama Queer, which recently premiered at the Venice International Film Festival.

Among the many racy scenes in the film, Grammy-nominated singer and debutant actor Omar Apollo reportedly had to share intimate scenes with Craig. After playing James Bond for fifteen years, Daniel Craig finally called it quits with the 2021 film No Time To Die. He played the role of Agent 007 for the first time in 2006’s Casino Royale, which seemed to be a revival for the franchise which was trying hard to move on from its campy Pierce Brosnan days. Craig has since branched into a number of roles.

His next appearance is set to be a collaboration with Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino. Craig will be seen in the filmmaker’s adaptation of William S Burroughs’ period romance novel Queer, in which he co-stars with Drew Starkey. The film premiered at Venice recently, where it reportedly received an eleven-minute standing ovation.

As with many other Guadagnino’s films, Queer has a number of intimate scenes featuring Craig and Starkey. Craig also reportedly shared a s*x scene with singer Omar Apollo in the film. While Apollo was nervous, Craig reportedly put him at ease when they were drinking before filming (via Interview),

He definitely has this presence to him that is felt from far away. I remember asking him, ‘How do you feel when the camera’s on?’ And he said, ‘To be honest, every time the camera’s on me, I’m terrified.’ I thought that was beautiful. You have to be vulnerable. You have to be open to these emotions. It was such an honest answer.

Apollo also mentioned that he had to reduce his weight to make sure he matched Daniel Craig’s incredible physique during the intimate sequences.

One of the highlights of Luca Guadagnino’s Queer is reportedly Daniel Craig’s phenomenal performance as a gay man in the 1940s. The actor’s performance has received unanimous praise from critics after its premiere at the Venice Film Festival. Many reportedly appreciated him for going in a direction that was different for a Bond actor.

Craig spoke about the film and even mentioned that it was a film that he would want to be in if he was not a part of it. The actor also mentioned how he and co-star Drew Starkey tried to perform the intimate scenes in the film. He told The Guardian,

There’s nothing intimate about filming a sex scene on a movie set. We just wanted to make it as touching and as real and as natural as we possibly could. Drew is a wonderful, fantastic, beautiful actor to work with and we kind of had a laugh. We tried to make it fun.

The film’s US release will reportedly be handled by A24, with no release date announced yet. Many have predicted that Craig would get an Oscar nomination for the film.
