Saudi Arabia: Iraq strikes were self-defence

Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Ministry said the joint strikes with U.S. forces against Iran-backed groups in Iraq were lawful self-defence.

“These Iran-backed terrorist militias chose the path of irresponsible escalation, violating international law,” the ministry said in a statement, per CBS News.

The ministry added that the strikes were carried out in response to previous attacks by the militia groups on Saudi Arabia.

Jordan says it intercepted Iranian missiles

Jordanian military said its air defences intercepted and brought down five missiles launched from Iran early Wednesday morning.

In a statement, a military spokesperson said: “The Jordanian Armed Forces continue to fulfill their duty to protect the Kingdom’s airspace and safeguard its security and sovereignty, and will not hesitate to confront any threat to the country’s security or the safety of its citizens,” per CNN.

Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps had previously stated that it launched ballistic missiles at U.S. military targets in Jordan.
